Frequently Asked Questions
At what age/experience can my child start?
We work with younger beginners through national-level competitors. Children can begin at age 5 in the Fundamentals group with age-appropriate, pressure-free drills and grow with the program through high school.
What gear is needed to get started?
Practices: Wrestling shoes, athletic shorts/t-shirt, headgear (recommended), and a water bottle, DEFENSE WIPES Competitions: All the above + TEAM UNIFORMS (Team Gear Packs will include a singlet, competition pants or shorts and a team jacket or hoodie) at additional cost.
What does it cost?
Costs vary depending on the level the kids are at. Memberships start with 2 days a week for young athletes, up to 4 days a week for advanced youth and high school age groups, sibling discounts are offered during signups. USA Wrestling cards, tournament fees, travel, and merchandise are all separate costs.
Is wrestling safe for my child?
Revival follows a controlled, technique-first system with supervised drilling, proper warm-ups, SafeSport standards, and age/weight/skill-based pairings. In youth sports accidents and injuries are always a risk and we work hard teaching the kids to protect themselves as well as use sound technique so that they avoid injury in competition.
How often are practices?
Fundamentals it is recommended (5–7): 2x/week. Developmental (8–12): minimum 2x/week. Advanced/Competition: 3–4x/week. during youth winter competition season youth wrestlers can train up to 4 days a week, for the high school age group the spring through fall seasons go up and down between 3-4 days a week as we prepare for local, regional, and national level competitions.
How does wrestling build confidence?
Wrestling builds discipline, confidence, resilience, respect, and work ethic.
Do athletes have to compete in tournaments?
Competing is encouraged but not forced; we provide guidance based on each athlete’s readiness. Winter season is the best time for our first year wrestlers to start competing due to the fact that it includes rookie (1st year) divisions for our beginners. For developing middle school and high schoolers we encourage and expect them to represent the club at 75% of offered tournaments. this is one of the foundations for growth and a core principle of our program.
What is the parent’s role?
Support effort over results, encourage consistency, keep it fun, avoid sideline pressure, and defer to coaches.
How are different skill levels handled?
Athletes are grouped by age, weight, experience, and maturity with appropriate pairings. Our beginners ages 5-8 will be paired for age appropriate training together and have truncated practices lasting 1 hour, kids ranging 8-14 will be paired together and have 1.5 hour practice sessions.
What are the coaches’ qualifications?
We have multiple former college wrestlers and all coaches are certified USA Wrestling coaches who emphasize instruction and character development. All of our coaches have learned USA Wrestling curriculum and age appropriate training to become wrestling leaders, have national background clearances, and have been trained in safe sport policies.
My child is nervous or shy — will they be okay?
They’ll be paired with supportive partners, introduced to skills step-by-step, and celebrated for effort.
How does wrestling compare to other sports?
Wrestling uniquely builds confidence, work ethic, discipline, agility, mental toughness, and accountability.
Can girls participate?
Yes! Girls are welcomed at all levels. They train with peers of similar size/experience and may compete in girls-only divisions when available.
What makes Revival different?
Long-term development, a character-first culture, safe and structured training, experienced coaches, and community connection.
